Getting a Library Card

All Westmont village residents are invited to become members of the Westmont Public Library. All you need is a valid driver's license or state ID card with your Westmont address. If the address on your ID card is incorrect, simply bring in a recent piece of mail. Please see a staff member for a list of acceptable forms of mail and identification. Your new library card will be valid for three years unless you move out of Westmont before that time. Registration forms are at the library's Circulation Desk. The form asks for information necessary for obtaining a card including name, address. phone number, and birth date. If you are under 18 years old, a parent or guardian needs to be present. If you have had a card in Illinois before, make sure you clear up any fines or overdue items in order recieve a Westmont card. Non-resident cards are available for a fee.

How many items can be checked out at one time?

A patron may check out at 50-100 items at one time depending on format.

How long may I keep the items I checked out?

The loan period for Westmont items is as follows:

New books, Magazines, DVDs, and console games are checked out for two weeks.

Regular books, audio books, and CDs are checked out for three weeks.

Due dates for items ordered from other libraries are determined by the owning library.

Can I use the internet if i do not have a library card?

If you do not have a library card, or if your library card is not compatible with our system, a guest card is available for purchase at the Circulation Desk.

How can I renew my library items?

If no other patrons are waiting for the item, you can have up to two renwals.

What DVDs does the library own?

To search a list of titles, simply click on the "DVD" link below the quick search box at the top of this page. You can also view a list of our CD and Console Game titles. Additionally, you can also download movies and classic television shows by setting up an account with MyLibraryDV.

What fines and fees do you charge?

You will be charged $.15 a day for overdue library items, excluding zoo passes which are $2.00 a day. A replacement library card is $2.00.

What if the Westmont library doesn't have the item I want?

While we try to order awide variety of items that will appeal to many different people, occasionally you will have to get the item from another librayr. The westmont Library is part of the Metropolitan Library system which links over 80 area libraries to each other. This allows you to visit other public libraries and check out materials. Through the SWAN catalog, you can place holds online by accessing your account. You can also visit the Reference or Circulation Desks to request specific items.

Do you have a copy or fax machine?

We have two copy machines in the library that are available to the public. The first floor copier makes black and white as well as color copies. We do not offer a fax service.

Do you have tax forms?

Every year the library recieves state and federal tax forms that can be picked up from the months of January through April.

Can I register to vote at the library?

We have several registrars working in the library who are happy to help you register to vote in local and nationwide elections.
